Jesus is...The Light of the World (and a Giveaway)

Good Morning, Friends!

I'm back with another easy activity to go along with a Bible verse from my Mommy's Jesus Catechism, which is (of course) courtesy of my sweet mom

This week we are talking about Jesus being the Light of the World (John 8:12).

Of course, you don't need anything fancy for this.  I got everything at Walmart.

Now, let's not kid ourselves here, I think I would have done better with spice drops that were bigger, but I couldn't find any.  The finished product would have been a little less...wonky.

That's what we're shooting for!

To start off, take a gumdrop and cut a little bit out of the side to expose the stickiness.

Have your child stick the opened Lifesaver onto the sticky part of the gumdrop.  Do your best to make sure that the bottom of the gumdrop is even with the bottom of your Lifesaver.

This will decrease the wonky factor, but it's certainly not the end of the world to have a wonky candy candlestick.

As we were using the Lifesaver, we talked about what makes Jesus our Lifesaver.  We talked about Jesus dying in our place so we don't have to die and how that is how Jesus saves us!

Then, drill into the top of the gumdrop to make a hole for the birthday candle.

Yes, drill is an overstatement.  But, you do want to make it easy for your child to stick in the candle.  Or else the candle might break, which you and I know isn't a big deal, but to the people whose age has yet to reach the double digits it is life altering-ly bad news.

While putting in the candle, we talked about what it's like in the dark.

  • You can't see.
  • You don't know what to expect.
  • It can be a little scary.

But, Jesus is the Light, so

  • He helps us see what is true.
  • We don't have to be afraid.
I really enjoy the conversational aspect of these little crafts.  It's good to attach something that the girls can see to a Spiritual concept that they can't see.

Heck, it's good for me to do that, too!

And, there you have it...the finished product!

The girls happily gobbled them up (naturally, we took out the candle first) after I put them on top of the chalkboard for a picture!

Now, on to the giveaway!

I love having Scripture on our walls, and one of my favorite places to get prints is from the Naptime Diaries Shop.  The shop is run by Jessi and her husband, Nick.  I've been reading Jessi's blog for awhile and always end up being encouraged or challenged.  They recently moved to Charleston, SC to plant a church, and we heart church planters around here!

Here's the print!  It's my favorite one that I don't have...if that makes sense :)

I love the verse and the pretty string of lights on the top!

Anyway, you can enter the giveaway 3 different ways.  You can enter 1, 2, or 3 times!

#1--Leave a comment (on this post) telling me what one of your favorite verses is.  You can tell me why, too!

#2--Follow my blog on facebook and leave a comment (on this post) telling me that you did so.

#3--Follow me on twitter.  I hardly ever tweet, so I won't overwhelm your feed...don't worry.  Then, leave a comment (on this post) telling me that you did it!

I'll draw a winner next Tuesday!

Updated on Tuesday, July 16th:  Giveaway closed.  The winner is BETH!
